Ohio PTA Voice October 2018

October in Ohio is fall sports, band shows, apple cider, pumpkin carving, parent-teacher conferences, membership campaigns and Ohio PTA Fall District Conferences. Your district advisors have been busy planning training for members, chairs and officers. Head to the home page on ohiopta.org for more information, registration forms and sign up today! If your district is not holding a fall conference, your district advisor is available to provide workshops for your unit or council.

But learning isn’t only available at our conferences or at your meetings, check out the e-learning courses at pta.org for training opportunities available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Courses include presidents, advocacy, finances, membership and more. While exploring pta.org, discover the programs and grants available to local PTAs. From Reflections to STEM to School of Excellence there is something for every school.

The School of Excellence Program (deadline to apply extended to October 15) is one of PTA’s signature programs as it embodies our goal of making every child’s potential a reality. It asks PTAs and schools to look at their family engagement processes and make sure that every family is invited, involved and empowered to positively impact their child’s life trajectory. It is a partnership that brings families and staff together to maximize each child’s potential as a student. Connecting families and schools is truly the heart of our mission and the reason we are members of PTA.

And speaking of membership is your unit on track to earn an Emmy or one of the other new Ohio PTA awards offered this year? Awards are a fun way to keep the Membership is Year Round spirit alive in your unit or council. PTA is a membership-based association- everyone has a vote, a stake in our children’s future. Whether it is deciding how to spend funds to best support student success or contacting legislators to urge passage of a bill, PTA members can be involved and make a difference.

As always, thank you for your support of PTA. I know you commit your time and talents to all children. Ohio PTA, your children and your schools do appreciate you!
