National PTA Applauds President Biden’s Immigration Reform Bill
ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Jan. 21, 2021)—The following statement can be attributed to National PTA President Leslie Boggs:
“National PTA applauds the bill President Joe Biden introduced to Congress last evening that would protect and strengthen the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, create a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and other undocumented immigrants living in the United States, and keep immigrant families together.
“National PTA has consistently advocated in support of the DACA program and for comprehensive immigration reform. Our association has also raised its voice for children and their parents and family members who have been separated at the border.
“National PTA has long believed that every child residing in the United States—regardless of their immigration status—has the right of access to a high-quality public education, adequate food and shelter, and basic health care services and to be treated with dignity and respect. Keeping families together and ensuring that all children, including immigrant children, have the opportunity to reach their full potential and become productive members of society is essential and in the best interest of our nation.
“The United States began as a country of immigrants and the resulting blend of cultures has enriched our nation for over two hundred years. We applaud President Biden for recognizing, valuing and embracing the diversity of our nation.
“National PTA urges Congress to take action on the bill and address immigration in a bipartisan, comprehensive way. Our association remains committed to raising our voice for DACA recipients and other undocumented immigrants and families in our country. Our nation’s future will benefit from their continued contributions.”
