Special Education Profiles and ratings to be released simultaneously in December
Every year, each school district receives a Special Education Profile displaying the district's performance on key indicators established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The profile also informs the district of any required activities for specific indicators. The 2020-2021 Special Education Profile is targeted for release in December 2020.
Due to the ordered school-building closure and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-2020 Special Education Profiles were not released. To ensure federal requirements are met, the Department will consolidate the required actions that would have been part of the 2019-2020 profiles into the 2020-2021 profiles. This means one or both years of data within the same consolidated profile may trigger a required action. Regardless of which year of data in the profile triggers the required action, districts will complete one improvement plan and timeline to address the indicator rather than duplicating the steps in the process. This will allow districts, state support teams and the Department to more thoroughly support and implement each step of the process.
The Department will issue each district’s 2020 Special Education Rating with the profile to meet this annual requirement before the end of the calendar year. The rating is based on a subset of the data included in the profile. The Special Education Profile and annual rating help districts facilitate continuous improvement in their special education programs.
The 2020-2021 Special Education Profiles will be released in two phases:
- This first release, targeted for December 2020, will contain all indicators that may have required actions. This includes student outcome, compliance, disproportionality and survey indicators.
- The second release, targeted for April 2021, will add informational student outcome indicators that do not have required actions.
With each profile release, the Department will email notifications to superintendents, special education contacts and community school sponsors. Special Education Profiles are accessed through the Department’s OH│ID portal.
