ALEXANDRIA, Va., (May 6, 2019)—Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day, and their work and impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. National PTA has designated May 5-11 Teacher Appreciation Week to celebrate and thank teachers for their “Out of this World” efforts that make a difference in children’s well-being and long-term success.
“Teachers do so much more than teach. They inspire a lifelong love of learning and discovery, help guide children’s futures and provide children the help and support they need to thrive—in the classroom and beyond,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. “It’s important that we celebrate, honor and thank teachers for everything they do to help children reach for the stars.”
During Teacher Appreciation Week, National PTA encourages everyone to recognize and show gratitude to the nation’s stellar educators by:
- Sharing photos and stories of teachers on social media using #ThankATeacher
- Sending heartfelt letters, cards and messages of appreciation
- Creating artwork, poems and video messages
- Recognizing teachers with awards and certificates
- Decorating schools and teacher’s lounges
- Hosting surprise assemblies and other events
- Volunteering in classrooms to help teachers
“Teacher Appreciation Week is an important time to shine a light on teachers and thank them for the pivotal role they play in children’s lives and futures,” added Nathan R. Monell, CAE, National PTA Executive Director. “We hope everyone will join us during Teacher Appreciation Week in celebrating and showing gratitude to teachers for their work and impact that is ‘Out of this World.’”
