Support for our Florida PTA Family

Please join National PTA as we send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the families impacted by the unspeakable tragedy this week in Florida.

At 7 p.m. ET on Monday, February 19, Florida PTA will be holding a statewide candlelight vigil to remember and honor the victims of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. We invite PTAs and PTA members across the country to join Florida PTA by holding their own vigils on Monday.

We also encourage you to join us in an online vigil by changing your profile pictures to an image of a candle. The goal is to honor and remember the victims of the shooting in solidarity.

Please find below more information about the vigil. Please help us spread the word and encourage participation by sharing this on social media.

Take Your Family to School Week

PTAs and Schools Nationwide Host Family Engagement Events During Take Your Family to School Week

ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Feb. 12, 2018)—PTAs and schools across the country will host a variety of events and activities Feb. 11-17 to celebrate family engagement in education as part of National PTA’s Take Your Family to School WeekThe week is designed to encourage families to visit their child’s school and get more involved in their education as well as strengthen partnerships between parents and teachers.

The timing of the week also honors the day PTA was founded, Feb. 17, 1897.

“At PTA, we know when families are engaged and families and schools work together, there is a positive impact on student success,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. For over 120 years, National PTA has been encouraging families to get more involved in their child’s education. Take Your Family to School Week is designed to highlight the importance of family engagement and family-school partnerships, and provide families with an opportunity to visit their child’s school.”

This school year, 55 local PTAs were selected to receive grants to host family engagement events during Take Your Family to School Week that focus on:
·         Engaging whole families in reading activities to support children’s literacy skills and help foster a love of reading
·         Empowering families with tools to adopt more active, healthy lifestyles
·         Showcasing how students use technology in the classroom to encourage digital learning and online citizenship at home

The grants were made possible by support from PTA Proud National Sponsors the all-new Chrysler Pacifica and Google Chromebooks.

National PTA is excited to offer PTAs resources to get even more families involved in their child’s education,” said Nathan R. Monell, CAE, National PTA executive director. Research proves that when families are involved at home and at school, children attend school more regularly, earn better grades, enroll in high-level programs and have higher graduation rates.”

Take Your Family to School Week reinforces PTA’s long legacy and mission to promote children’s educational success, health and well-being through strong family engagement. For more information about Take Your Family to School Week, visit PTA.org/TYFTSW.
