Programs: Say Something Week this October 16 – 20!
Say Something Week
Did you know that when it comes to threats of violence or suicide, most are known by at least one other person before the incident takes place? Imagine how much tragedy could be averted if these individuals said something?
During the week of October 16 – 20, 2017, schools and youth organizations across the United States will participate in Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Week. Say Something Week raises awareness and educates students and the community through training, media events, advertising, public proclamations, contests and school awards.
Help us bring Say Something Week to even more schools and youth organizations this year. With your help, we can prevent more tragedy and save more lives!
  1. If you work in a school or youth organization: Talk to your colleagues and administrators about bringing Say Something Week to your community, or sign up to have your school or youth organization participate in Say Something Week. Click here to sign up today!

  2. If you want a school or youth organization in your community to participate in Say Something Week: Reach out and ask them to sign up for Say Something Week. You can use this sample email or letter to get started today.
Advocacy: Join us for an all-levels advocacy webinar on September 20!
Do you want to help SHP pass lifesaving policies? Have questions about how to get started as an advocate in your community?
Join us on Wednesday, September 20, from 8-9 p.m. ET for an advocacy webinar with our Policy and Partnership Director, Lauren Alfred, to learn more about how you can make a difference through advocacy at the state and federal level.
Whether you regularly engage with your representatives or want to learn how to get started, we will share best practices, helpful tools and resources, and answer all your questions! For over four years, our Promise Leaders have played a key role in passing mental health and gun safety policy across the country. But we have a lot more work ahead, and we’d love your help and your voice. Please sign up here if you can join us on September 20!
Building Awareness: Write a letter to the editor to spread the word about Say Something!
A letter to the editor is a great way to reach a larger population within your community. This month, in preparation for our Say Something Week, we are asking our Promise Leaders to help spread the word about the Say Something violence prevention program. Say Something Week reinforces the power young people have to prevent tragedies and save lives when they Say Something to a trusted adult. By training our children to look out for their peers and speak up, we can help prevent violence before it happens. Click here to view a sample letter to the editor.
