HB 305 Cupp-Patterson Bill

HB 305, the latest version of the “Cupp-Patterson” bill to overhaul the school funding formula for Ohio schools, and to change the way vouchers and charter schools are funded.  It’s the best legislation offered since the 1997 DeRolph decision to actually fix school funding. It has just started its way through the lame-duck legislative process. It needs to be passed as introduced and by mid-December to have any chance of actually becoming law.

The Nation's Report Card

The most recent Nation's Report Card – for 12th grade reading and mathematics – joins a series of NAEP releases in recent years that signal troubling trends across grade levels and across subject areas. The results reveal a pattern in which the lowest-performing students on NAEP show the largest declines in performance in both reading and mathematics.

WATCH THE VIDEO

This pattern predates the current national landscape, in which the global pandemic is disproportionately affecting the economic circumstances and educations of children of color and those living in low-income households.

While this is undoubtedly troubling news, there is a compelling need to shine a spotlight on it, and we hope the context that NAEP provides can be a catalyst for action. Watch this video to learn more.

The National Assessment Governing Board is an independent, nonpartisan board whose members include governors, state legislators, local and state school officials, educators, business representatives, and members of the general public. Congress created the 26-member Governing Board in 1988 to set policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress. For more information about the Governing Board, visit  www.nagb.gov.

COVID Parenting Academic Survey Request

Was your family impacted by COVID-19?

Researchers at Case Western Reserve University want to hear from you!

Dr. Amy Przeworski and the Stress, OCD, Anxiety, and Related Disorders Institute are conducting an online research study to examine psychological symptoms in children ages 5-17 years old and their parents.

The goal of the research study is to learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on children and their families. For this study we need parents of children ages 5 to 17 to complete an online survey. This research not only helps us to improve therapies but also learn more about the psychological impact of COVID-19. If you complete the survey and provide your email address, you will be entered in a raffle to win one of four $25 gift cards.

Questions? Feel free to contact Dr. Przeworski at axp335@case.edu, Chelsea Day at cxd345@case.edu, or Alexandra Smith at acs192@case.edu.
