Nominating Committee and Planning for your next school year's PTA Board
It is that time of year to look at your bylaws and see when you are to vote in your nominating committee-many units' bylaws state January. Don't have your bylaws - then reach out to your Region Advisor or VP of Field Service. The Nominating Committee has an important role to find well-qualified candidates to run the PTA for next year. Check out the workshop (Nominating Committee The Most Important Committee in PTA ) on the Ohio PTA website. You can find it under Programs, under Parent Academy. Also- see the attached Nominations, Voting, and Elections Handbook. Can the President be part of the Nominating Committee? NO - per your bylaws!
Standards of Affiliation Checklist
Since PTA units and councils are under the Ohio and National PTA umbrella, your unit/council is required to upload a signed copy of the Ohio PTA Standards of Affiliation. If you need help with items on this checklist or have questions - please reach out to your Region Advisor or the VP of Field Service. Please upload it ASAP via MemberHub, under Compliance, 7th field down, Under Standards of Affiliation. Please do not send IRS 990 receipts, financial reviews, etc. to the Ohio PTA office or to your Region advisor. What about all the other fields in the compliance section?? Those are there for your unit/council to upload items for transparency and document storage purposes- so feel free to use them. Do I have to upload our signed SOA checklist? YES - it is REQUIRED!!
Advocacy Award
The Ohio PTA Advocacy award's deadline is March 1st, 2023. This year you can submit your completed application to advocacy@ohiopta.org or fill it out electronically at https://bit.ly/
The 2023 Debbie Tidwell Everyday Advocate Award
Awarded to one individual who most exemplifies the qualities that made one of PTA’s greatest child advocate leaders, past Ohio PTA President Deb Tidwell. Debbie was a true advocate for all children. She loved PTA and advocacy work. She was a hard-working and compassionate leader who was dedicated to moving Ohio PTA and its leaders forward and committed to ensuring that others would follow.
She is remembered as a passionate and dedicated advocate for children through the PTA. Debbie enjoyed volunteering her time on countless committees, serving as a past President of the Ohio PTA, and was the Treasurer for the Friends of the Fairview Park Schools Committee.
This award is to celebrate the legacy Debbie created within the Ohio PTA.
Requirements:
Has applied for the Ohio PTA Advocacy award in the past 5 years and this year.
Completes the application and submits by March 1st, 2023.
A member of a unit in good standing with the Ohio PTA
